Teleomorph state: Cordyceps staphylinidaecola/Cordyceps bassiana
Description:Specimens were found in the leaf litter. Hosts are lepidopteran or coleopteran larvae, pupae or adults. On the insect the hyphae are hyaline, white or pale yellow. The mycelium is loose and floccose. On the development of conidia the mycelia appears powdery, which readily falls off when disturbed. In culture the colonies on PDA are fast-growing, attaining a diam. of 40-50 mm after 14 d at 25° C. Sporulation begins after 2 d of culture. Colonies are white to pale yellow, with white powdery balls of conidia which can be seen with the naked eye. Phialides 2.5-4 x 2-3 µm terminating in a zigzag sterigma bearing conidia. Conidia hyaline to white, globose, 1.2-2.4 x 1.2-1.6 µm. Beauveria bassiana is a very common entomopathogenic species that can be collected nationwide, in the forest as well as on agricultural land. The Cordyceps teleomorph was rarely found.
