Teleomorph state: Akrophyton tuberculatum Lebert, in Sieber & Koll., Z. Wiss. Zool., (Leipzig) 9 (1858). Cordyceps sphingum (Tul. & C. Tul.) Berk. & M.A. Curtis, in Berkeley, J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 10 (no. 46): 375 (1868)
Description:No description
References:Specimens were found on the underside of the most dicotyledonous leaves of forest plants. Hosts are adult moths (Lepidoptera). The fungus fastens the host on the leaves of plants with thin hyphae surrounding the legs and edges of the wings. Perithecia pale yellow, superficial, clustered and emerge from thin whitish mycelium over the insect, sometimes surrounding cream synnemata, ovoid, 650-760 μm long, ca. 400 μm in diam., no paraphyses within the perithecia; asci cylindrical, up to 550 μm long, 2.5-4 μm in diam., with a distinct, thickened hyaline cap 2.5 μm long, ca. 3 μm in diam.; ascospores filliform, up to 500 μm long, 2 μm wide. Spores will germinate within 12 h on PDA. In culture the colonies on PDA are moderately fast-growing, attaining a diam. of 2 cm in 14 d at 20°C. Colonies are white and floccose. Cordyceps tuberculata is a species infecting adult moths. This species is found throughout Thailand from Doi Inthanon National Park in the north to Hala Bala National Park in the south.
